BLAEU, WILLEM. 1571-1638.
Nova totius terrarum orbis geographica ac hydrographica tabula. Amsterdam: [c.1635].
Hand-colored double-page map, 410 x 550 mm, Dutch text on verso, 3 decorative cartouches, one flanked by maidenheads, one representing the new world with native dress, the other possibly representing Europa, bordered by 22 vignettes (4 Elements; 4 Seasons; Sun, Moon and 5 known planets; 7 "Wonders of the World"), 2 inset views of the world from the Polar regions, compass roses, several ships and sea creatures. Framed. Reinforcement to verso of centerfold, but a clean, attractive example.
"Celebrated as the supreme examples of the map maker's art" (Shirley Mapping of the World 255). 4th state as often found.
