A gold and rock-crystal hinged bangle, by Phillips Brothers, circa 1860
Set at the front with a large circular-cut rock-crystal, within a surround of gold beadwork and rope-twist decoration, with cylindrical shoulders and similarly designed clasp, the bangle of a 'bloomed' gold finish, maker's mark, inner diameter 6.5cm

  • Robert Phillips of Phillips Brothers was one of the most prominent British jewellers working in the revivalist style, known to have worked alongside Castellani and Giuliano. The Phillips Brothers firm, once located at 31 Cockspur Street, moved to 23 Cockspur Street and became known as Phillips Brothers & Son in 1869. The firm bears a distinctive mark of backed Ps with the Prince of Wales's feathers, indicative of its royal patronage.

Buyers' Premium and Charges

For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:

Buyer's Premium Rates
27.5% on the first £2,500 of the hammer price;
25% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £2,500 up to and including £300,000;
20% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £300,000 up to and including £3,000,000;
and 13.9% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £3,000,000.

VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
