Footnotes

'With good wishes from the Members of the Court of Common Council 6th Novr. 1931.'

The Court of Common Council governs the City of London Corporation, one of the oldest continuous non-party political municipal democracies in the world. It acts as a local authority for the geographic Square Mile around St Paul's, London. The arms of the City of London Corporation combine the Cross of St George with the symbol of the martyrdom of Saint Paul – the sword, these are the emblems of the patron saints of England and London respectively. Saint Paul has featured as a symbol of the city since the 13th century.
